A rattle for the first few seconds after a cold start is the classic sign of a stretched timing chain or a tired tensioner – very common on modern Mercedes-Benz petrol engines and many other makes. Left too long, the chain can jump a tooth and cause serious engine damage.
We replace chains, guides, tensioners, sprockets and camshaft adjusters with the correct locking tools, and check the timing electronically before the car leaves. We also replace head gaskets and cylinder heads after overheating or when a head is cracked or warped.
